Skagit Valley Provincial Park is part of a larger protected area that includes the US North Cascades National Park and the Ross Lake and Lake Chelan National Recreation Areas. This area also contains the Ross Lake Reservoir, an important source of hydroelectricity for Seattle.
Skagit Valley is located about two hours from Vacnouver and can be accessed by the Trans Canada Highway just south of Hope. The road to the Skagit Valley area beyond the highway is unpaved and requires drivers to drive with extreme caustion and to use headlights at all times. The road is shared with logging trucks and other industrial equipment.
The Skagit Valley Provincial Park is open from May 1 - October 11.
Visitors to the Skagit Valley can enoy plenty of outdoor recreational opportunities ranging from hiking to horseback riding to swimming and fishing.
Campgrounds in the Skagit Valley area are all first-come, first-serve sites.
A campfire ban is scheduled in the Coastal Fire Centre from Friday, July 23rd, 2010 from noon until further notice.
