The Stawamus Chief was named after STA-a-mus, a First Nations village at the north end of the Squamish River and is the home of the second largest granite monolith in the world that is renowned for its climbing potential.
While the Chief is known for climbing, there are plenty of outdoor recreation opportunities within the park such as hiking, wildlife watching and camping.
The Chief is also a nesting habitat to for the Perigrine Falcon. Climbers are asked to observethe voluntary closure of climbing routes, that vary from year to year depending on the Falcons, from April to June.
There are 15 drive-in camping sites and 47 walk-in sites. All sites are $11.00 each per night, per party. Campsites at the Stawamus Chief are non-reservable and based on first-come, first-served.
Stawamus Chief Provincial Park is open from May 14 - October 17.
